Merchant Terms
Last updated: July 30, 2026
Agreement
These terms govern your use of the instore Companion Shopify app and the instore platform as a merchant, operated by instore Technologies, Inc. (“instore,” “we,” “us”). By installing the Companion app, you agree to these terms.
What instore provides
instore provides a Shopify theme app extension that displays real-time in-store inventory levels on your product pages. Inventory is shown in approximate terms (none, some, plenty) and does not guarantee exact stock counts.
instore also provides a QR-based loyalty program for your in-store team. When a shopper presents their instore membership pass, your associates can scan the QR code through the instore Companion app to view the member's profile, points balance, membership tier, and items they have saved online — helping your team deliver a more personalized floor experience and apply loyalty rewards at checkout.
Data we access
By installing the instore Companion app, you authorize instore to access the following data from your Shopify store via the Shopify API:
- Store name, email address, and Shopify store URL
- Product and inventory data
- Store location information
For the loyalty program, instore also processes consumer data that shoppers provide when they sign up through instoreinc.com/map or enroll in the membership program. When your associates scan a member's QR code, the Companion app displays that shopper's name, contact information, points balance, membership tier, and saved product history. This data is used solely to power the instore widget and loyalty program on your behalf (and, where enabled, hold-to-try reservations). We do not sell merchant or consumer data to third parties.
Loyalty program
The instore loyalty program is instore-wide — shoppers hold a single membership that works across all participating merchants. Points are earned through qualifying activities (such as sign-up and purchases) and may be redeemed for discounts or rewards at your location, subject to program rules in effect at the time.
instore manages the points ledger, membership tiers, and earn/redeem rules. You are responsible for honoring valid point redemptions at your store and for training your associates on how to scan membership QR codes and apply rewards through the Companion app.
When a completed in-store sale includes an item the member saved or opened via an instore deeplink (a hunt / attributed sale), instore may charge a transaction fee of approximately 3% of the fee-eligible sale subtotal (capped per program rules). Fees accrue per attributed sale. You must honor valid point redemptions at checkout. When a member redeems welcome/signup points at your store, instore reimburses that welcome/signup redemption amount by netting it against your hunt-sale fees in the monthly settle. Other (non-welcome) redemptions are not reimbursed as a separate credit. Monthly charges are a net settlement of hunt-sale fees minus welcome/signup redemption reimbursements (and any unused credit carried forward), billed through your Shopify app subscription usage charges. The net charge for a period may be zero when reimbursements cover fees; unused reimbursement credit carries forward to later periods. There is no separate per-scan fee for signup.
When an associate scans a member's QR code, the app may surface products the shopper saved or checked availability for online. This is intended to help your team pull items from the floor — inventory availability shown in the scan view is informational and should be verified against your current stock.
Hold-to-try reservations (where enabled)
Some merchants may enable an optional hold-to-try reservation feature that lets shoppers request a temporary hold on a product at a specific store. Hold-to-try is not required to use inventory display or the loyalty program, and may not be available for your store.
If you enable hold-to-try, you are responsible for honoring holds within the configured hold window and for managing reservations through the Shopify Admin dashboard.
Merchant responsibilities
You are responsible for ensuring your inventory data is accurate.
For the loyalty program, you are responsible for honoring valid point redemptions, ensuring your associates use the scan feature only for legitimate in-store interactions, and handling consumer contact information accessed through scans in accordance with applicable privacy laws. Consumer data viewed through the Companion app must not be exported, sold, or used for purposes outside of delivering the instore service.
Third-party services
instore uses Shopify APIs to sync inventory and product data, Twilio for transactional SMS (including reservation notifications where hold-to-try is enabled), and other services as needed to operate the platform. These services have their own terms and privacy policies.
Availability
instore services are subject to availability. Inventory data is refreshed periodically and may not reflect real-time changes at all times. We do not guarantee uptime or uninterrupted service.
Intellectual property
The instore name, platform, and associated technology are the property of instore Technologies, Inc. You may not use the instore name or branding without written permission.
Limitation of liability
instore is provided as-is. We are not liable for inventory inaccuracies, expired holds, loyalty point disputes, or any loss arising from use of the platform. Our liability is limited to the fees paid for the service, if any.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms at any time. Changes will be posted at this URL. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
